Autism Hall of Fame (Awetism Hall of Fame)

The Autism Hall of Fame features awesome contemporary autistic geniuses/beautiful minds of the 20th and 21st centuries (the oldest geniuses we can include must have died at least at the beginning of the 20th century, even if they were born in the 19th century). Their achievements are really extraordinary and range from acting, modeling and sports to music, art, poetry, fiction, general writing, science and much more. Some of them are talented in multiple fields and quite a few are also autism advocates (we are autism advocates ourselves). We have not included contemporary (living) famous people (in particular “celebrities”) just “speculated” or “suspected” to have Asperger Syndrome on message boards. We have included a few contemporary people of the 20th and 21st centuries featured in books on geniuses with Asperger Syndrome, as such books are not based on gossip, but real events/details as well as anecdotes in the lives of the featured geniuses, details that indeed indicate such geniuses met at least a few, and in some cases even most criteria for Asperger Syndrome. In particular Prof. Fitzgerald’s books are very detailed. In such cases we have identified them as featured in such books, even if they were not “officially” diagnosed (many lived and died before Asperger Syndrome even existed as a diagnose). Their names are preceded by a hashtag (#). The hashtag will be omitted for geniuses featured in books if their diagnosis has been confirmed. All the other people (not featured in books) have been properly diagnosed. We have also included autistic savants featured in Darold Treffert’s book Islands of Genius. All the books and articles referenced to are listed at the end of this page.

Our criteria for inclusion are a diagnosis of autism and outstanding/extraordinary achievements in at least one field as judged by our Board as well as some “continuity” of achievements. Our definition of genius is “creativity and eminent achievement” as mentioned in this Wikipedia article. We take this seriously as the word “genius” is widely misused these days. All the members of our Board are on the spectrum and have jobs in different fields. Please provide links and as many details as possible when nominating somebody. You may also nominate yourself. You can find more details here.

We have tried to make this list as accurate as possible by evaluating many resources, but we are still expanding it and probably always will. While we try to do our best, autistic talent is so extraordinary that our list can only be representative of course. Our goal is to promote the genius of autism and to encourage people on the spectrum to believe more in themselves and those who are not on the spectrum to believe more in autism and its extraordinary gifts. However, we also believe that everyone on the spectrum has something to give and it is not our intention to be elitist. We treat all forms of autism with equal respect and love. We are here for YOU and are not in any way associated with big autism organizations that are led by non-autistic people and think autism is a problem. As somebody said before us, autism is not a problem. Ignorance is. For the same reason we don’t ask for donations or likes. It’s all about YOU and YOUR talent, not about us. If you want to donate you can donate directly to our members. We also have a blog. We left Facebook mainly because we didn’t want people who don’t have a Facebook account to be excluded from reading our posts and also because it didn’t give us the chance to properly order our blog posts. WordPress blog posts can be read also without a WordPress account. Congratulations to all who have been included!
